PVC play gym

Postby Nir » Sat May 11, 2013 12:25 am

I am making a play gym but i am not sure how to hook eye hooks onto the pvc's. i have seen some pvcs that people made and it had eye hooks for toys but i am not sure how they did that. Also what else can i use to hang toys onto the pvc? should i just use a string?

i am trying to make something similar to this.

perhaps a bigger version of it but not sure.

Are you in the US? If you go to Target, you can find plastic links for babies. They come in a zippered pack (I think of 24?) for $4. They are bird safe, I've read. They are also textured...that's the best part about them, my bird loves them because of that!

In your picture, it looks like the toys are hung by those exact links. I hang toys from perches with those links myself in Emmi's cage and not only does she love playing with the toys, but she loves moving the toys back and forth along the perch.

As far as the eye hooks in PVC, they drill the PVC and then bolt or screw in the eye hooks. Maybe ask your local hardwear store if they are able to dril you some holes for a small fee?

Post pictures when you're done! :)

What are you using to cover the PVC? Vet wrap? I guess you can wrap the ends with the vet wrap?

Personally, if I didn't have enough money, I would wait to buy the ends and just leave the ends open. You can alway buy them later and put them on, right? And for now...stuff paper and goodies in them so your bird can forage. I guess just watch out for biting at the ends? Not sure if that's a safety issue or not?

Got it. I don't think you will get cheaper ends then the PVC ends. Unused bottle cork? But I'm sure you would have to keep replacing that and I wonder about bacteria if it's in there a long time. But I think the PVC ends will stay put and keep everything clean.

That's a great stand btw. Don't forget to post a picture of yours when you're done! :)

I bought those baby clips so i will use those to hang toys. i will also put a ladder and a rope and other things to hang on. As soon as i finish setting it up i will post more pictures. Hopefully mango plays with it.
