Paper Mache' Boxes Great For Foraging Toys; Hobby Lobby

Postby Maria » Mon Feb 24, 2014 12:07 pm

Hi - just wanted to let ya'll know this, this is great. These are great for making foraging toys for hanging in the cage. I double checked on it with an AFA Certified Aviculturist. She said there are not any components in these which are not safe, and that they look ok.

Paper mache boxes from hobby lobby to use to make bird toys for foraging for hanging in the cage. Paper mache is paper, flour and water, as we know; remember when we were kids and we use to make things out of paper mache lol.

Here’s the links for them from hobby lobby: (they come in all different shapes. It’s paper and/or cardboard; UN-marked, UN-colored, UN-labeled) . . . They’re boxes with lids which just lift on and off. They’re the color of a paper lunch bag, basically, or a piece of regular cardboard, like when you think of a cardboard box. You can easily poke a hole in them and put them on stringing material, stuff them, and hang them in the cage.

I don’t think they’re any different than the drink carriers from McDonalds, which I do use to make foraging toys (see this link for image): (you can cut them and fold them, tying them together with jute, when puching holes in them, etc.):

Or these egg cartons, non colored, non labeled, UN-marked egg cartons, which I also use to make foraging toys with: (see link). I order them here online, 25 cartons for $20.95.

I use the drink carriers and egg cartons to make foraging toys for him too.

They are all fine, and my parrot is doing fine :swaying:

So stop by your local Hobby Lobby store and get some! :D Just ask where the "Paper Mache" little boxes are . . . . . they are only 99 cent a piece! :) . When I bought them, I'd asked the store manager if this is something they are going to keep carrying. He said probably, but that you never know if/when Hobby Lobby will have a change. So buy! buy! buy! because you know the old deal, if stores see that an item sells good, and moves good, they will not discontinue them, and keep making and carrying them, and keeping them in stock! :P

Yes, it is.

Just be sure and remove the price tag from the bottom of the box. Its easy to remove, stuck on there with a very VERY *light* adhesive. It peels off easy, leaving no adhesive residue. Be careful. You do not want to give your birds any adhesive at all. I don't.

By the way, many different things I found and use to make parrot toys, foraging toys, etc.

The Arby's fast food place, the manager sells me a whole sleeve of those paper condiment cups they use to put ketchup in for the customers for only about a buck and 75 cents.

I went to a chinese food store, and they sold me those little new un-used plastic containers with the lids, which they use for customers to put like wanton soup in to go delivery orders, etc. They have two different small type sizes. You can go to one and ask them to see their sizes. I'm sure you know what I'm talking about. They sold me 10 containers with lids for 8 bucks of the medium ones, and 10 with lids for another 8 bucks of the ones which are the next size smaller than that.

At the dollar store you can buy lots in a package for a buck, of those plastic little condiment cups with the lids, which are also used at like Taco Cabana. Mine are labeled "jello shot cups" or something like that. I'm sure you know what I mean.

Just think, anything which can have food directly against it is safe to use to make toys, get it? of course :danicing:

cup cake liners, etc.

And don't forget about paper lunch bags, and little paper cups, even larger paper cups which have no wax on them. I have made so many toys out of these many things I talk about, cheaply. My baby does not lack for toys.

Also, at this link, this parrot toy manufacturer - sells vine and willow bird toy parts for really pretty good pricing. http://stores.grahamsparrottoycreations.com/

And I went to MANUFACTURER: Rhode Island Novelty http://www.rinovelty.com

Blow Mold Toy Assortment
Item: KIBLTOY
UPC: 097138758880

THEIR LINK FOR PICTURE AND INFORMATION ABOUT THE PRODUCT (please see link for photo also): http://www.rinovelty.com/index.cfm/fuse ... assortment

THEY’RE ALL MIXED IN TOGETHER AT THIS MANUFACTURER’S, UNDER ONE UPC NUMBER.
“TUB TOYS”
“SAFARI ANIMALS”
“DINOSAURS”
And other assortments I’d been looking for.

Showing sold at $35.00 FOR 600 PC. (that rounds off to six cents per piece)
(I see now since I'd bought them a little while ago, the price has now gone up to $42.00, like the economy lol - but that's with everything, but it's still a terrific deal.)
These blow mold creatures, the bird toy manufacturers are breaking down into smaller packages and selling them marked up.

I get my woods from herman's online store, remember that one?

US Toy has alot of things which can be used, remember? I am finding more and more things I see on bird toys made and sold, which are at US Toy.

playing cards are used also, found at dollar stores.

gotta run!

Also, I get and use brown rice cakes, salt free, from Lundberg, and use them at times to top off a foraging toy like that, instead of the plastic lid which comes with those containers, use use a rice cake to top off a large paper cup. All strung onto a toy. These rice cakes by Lundberg are hard to find in stores, and HEB stopped carrying them too, and can't find them anywhere now, have to order them online at their website.

Here's the link:

http://www.lundberg.com/products/rice_c ... _Free.aspx

Ingredients
Eco-Farmed Whole Grain Brown Rice.

That's it! the only ingredient in them is brown rice! Healthy! My parrot loves them.

You can go to their contact page, call them, then they will give you the direct website for their "online store", and that is where you order them. You can order two packs at a time. My parrot loves them.
