DIY Foraging Toys, Fun for big and small birds

You Will Need:

Home Made treats:
Image

Millet
Image

Shredding Material
Image

Different types of cords and ropes like: Sisal rope, Hemp cord, Cotton rope
Image

Toilet Paper Rolls (Cut into these sized pieces)
Image

Random toy parts and quick links
Image

Papers (Make sure bird Safe)
Image

Toys

Millet Cages (As i call them)

1. Cut the paper towel rolls into many thin rings.
2. Overlap the rings until you get a strong ball/cage.
3. Stuff it with millet through the openings left.

Foraging treat gifts and candies

1. Cut squares of paper in different sizes.
2. Cut different sizes of cord (I used hemp cord).
3. Stuff the rolls cut into different lengths with treats and/or millet.
4. Wrap with paper.
5. Tie them tightly with cord.

Those look lovely, however I've seen discussion on the forum about the glue on the toilet paper rolls being unsafe. I would do a bit more research. Perhaps you can find something else of the same stiffness to use? or even untreated cardboard of the same thickness.

Very cool! I definitely will try some of these out. Shiraartain, I believe some brands of toilet paper such as Quilton don't use any glue on their roles, so they are a safer alternative.

Wow these are ale awesome!
Great Ideas, I was wondering what the woven straw shredding material was? I 'try' to make my own foraging toys but my parrot is not that intrested in them(using carboard, jute, and brown paper), the bright colours will surely get her attention though.
And Faraaz, may I ask for the cupcake recipie? They look really good!!!

Why would a GCC not eat millet? All parrots do, especially the little ones. Granted, I would not make cupcakes with all that millet in them but not because my birds would not like them...
