do you think tricko is safe for birds?

Postby pichagirl » Thu Aug 07, 2014 3:49 pm

Hello!
I just made this toy to my cockato and it's made from trico fabric. The thing is while he was nibbling on it i saw that becouse of the trico is a strechy fabric its made also with rubber ...
The parrot was happy with the toy and destroyed it very fast.
The thing now is that a friend of mine wants this toy also for his african grey and im afraid that maybe this fabric is not good for them...
Do you think its safe?

Hello and welcome to the forums!

No fabric is really safe for birds, there have been many threads about it here and fabrics may cause impaction.
Please see this thread for more info on the matter:

Again, welcome to the forums and that too looks very cute :).

Yes, indeed, fabrics are dangerous and the worst thing about them is that you don't realize the problem until the bird's crop is impacted or it ends up with an occlusion from the accumulation of fibers and, by then, the only solution (and only if it's caught in time) is surgery.

If you are certain that it is simply a matter of fabric choice, please tell me what fabrics have been found to be safe for birds to eat. I am requesting this as I have not yet found any.

i looked online and i can't find anything about safe fabric for birds thy all seem to do dangerous, but you could use a small rope (clean it first)a rope if harder for the bird to pick at and it'll still have fun :budgie:

Yes you can, and actually the safest rope that I have found is sisal rope. It isn't mush but it is something.
