I would not trust acorns for birds without checking them out first, I think that they may have too much tannic acid to be bird safe.

Correct. Acorns need to be processed but I would not feed acorns to a parrot, anyway...

This is such a good idea!

We live on a property with over 20,000 pine trees and I'm so excited to put all the pine cones to use!

My dog Tessa (Poodle) eats them as soon as they fall from the tree and loves to play and literally eat them. She's so funny, we told our vet and got a strange look...

I saw a bird toy with a pine cone on it, so figured they were safe and Screech loves them. Fortunately, the breeder had tons of them in his front yard and told me to help myself. Hanging from his play stand, or just rolling around on the floor....he loves 'em. :sun:

I bake all my pine cones to make sure all parasites are gone, it is not worth the risk. I clean them really good before baking, and scrub them with a toothbrush to get rid of anything stuck to them or the little seeds.

I wondered if they were safe. I used to bring them in for Rocky the squirrel to tare up so he would know something from outside.

I will process some pine combs for them.
