Kili Got Some Fan Mail

Postby Michael » Sun Apr 04, 2010 6:51 pm

Kili got a package in the mail from one of her loyal fans. Rita at Rainbow Parrots breeds Senegal Parrot babies and said that she shares Kili's videos with her buyers. She said that the video has helped her sell more babies so she wanted to send Kili a care package. Here's a video of us going through it with Kili.

Kili is just gorgeous towards the end there when she is trying to put the bagels on the pegs what a sweety she is.

That's awesome! I think I'll check out rainbow parrots for my next toy purchase.

Wow what a nice gesture!

If I was in the US then I would consider buying from them...

I hope Kili enjoys it, she is a famous parrot now :)

Michael I think Kili is just amazing! He reminds me of my senegal. The only trick mine does is sit upside down. How long does it take you to train him to do each trick? What treats do you give him as a reward as I see him eat them very quickly. Your videos are fun to watch. My kids enjoyed them as well and now want me to train our birds to do that!!

The trick training durations varies. Sometimes I'd teach a trick in a day and others took over a month to teach. Also there were times when she would forget tricks or mix them up with others so I had to go back and work on fixing them. It's an ongoing process. Furthermore, I'm always practicing and improving old tricks. When I thought I ran out of tricks, she started flying so I've been working on a flight based version of most tricks lately.

The treats also vary from time to time but the staple treat is stuff from a classic parrot seed mix. Since I normally feed her pellets, pretty much anything from the junk food seed mix is a treat to her. Other times I use apple, banana, oatmeal, dried fruit mix, and various nuts. I often use pellets or nuts as treats when I need her to eat them quickly because she pretty much swallows them whole. The seeds are used more during training than videos cause they take longer to eat.
