Tamber loves the larger popsicle sticks! I try to make sure there are plenty of them in anything I make for him and I will also toss some in the bottom of his cage. It's fun to watch him go down to the bottom, pick one up, and then attempt to navigate back to the top of the cage without losing the stick! His second favorite are those big unfinished wood mixing spoons. They are so unevenly weighted that he goes through a lot of contortions to get it to the top of the cage and then chew on it!
Teyla likes those wicker balls they make for birds. Her second favorite are those flat wooden ice cream 'spoons'. She also likes to tear up paper towel tube cardboard.
Tamber's toys get chewed very quickly, sometimes lasting no more than one day. Those big wooden mixing spoons might last a week or two at best. Teyla's toys will last 1-2 months.
I've considered wood baskets also. The problem I have is that the ones I saw were either varnished or painted or had staples, nails or wire in them that I didn't think would be safe. I finally just gave up looking.
