DIY Wall-Mounted Playgym: Comments and Criticism?

For you big bird lovers: With heavy-duty screws bored into studs, a wooden object like this can support about 50 pounds.

Edit: Hm... I've been playing too much Mage: The Awakening. I spelled "hollow" as "hallow" :danicing:

How do you fold it up if the perches are 3 times the length of the hollow bit of the box?

The perches are removable, thus the interchangeability of the unit. If you need to pack it up, just remove all the perches and put them diagonally in the box.

And you plan to make the perches screwable or just slotted in? I'm pretty sure my sennie would easily (and enjoy it) taking the perches out :D

Your sennie would have a blast with it...
:D
Good thing it's designed for the smaller birds. Probably be fine for Linnies, maybe parrotlets...in addition to budgies and 'tiels...

For larger birds, I would recommend making the holes almost the same size as the dowels, rather than larger, and hammering them in then prying them out. That way the bird could not take it apart every five seconds. Less convenient, but it still allows you to easily rearrange and replace pieces, and replacement sounds key for big birds and their chewing habits.

For my little bird, I'm thinking of adding some natural branches of the right diameter, too, since she likes to chew on those more.
