basically make a huge square shape, then start knotting away from one end to the other. just remember to make your frame larger then you will actually want it. these knots as described will make the rope a little bit shorter after a few ties.

Whatever kind of rope you select, be sure it is of safe quality for birds. Hemps, jutes, sisal and other rope products imported from India might be sprayed with pesticides in the cargo hold. Contact the wholesaler to make sure that it will not be contaminated when you buy it. Always smell the rope for chemicals to be sure.

another thing to think about...(from the article.) my first go at it was with manila like the star bird get a grips, but it smelled TERRIBLE. i thought maybe after i make it i can just wash the crap out of it, no way. that was chucked. i used a poly/cotton instead.
