I started with an old torchiere lamp with a burned out switch.

the screw together type from wallmart, like $20 new I think.
After taking it apart and removing the wiring, I re-assembled it in two pieces.

We are blessed to live in the San Diego mountains, and our yard is full of 6-12 foot manzanita bushes.
I selected some pieces, and cut them to size, rounding one end to the curvature of the lamp pole.

I cut an old shovel handle off in about 4 inch pieces and stuck them in the open end of the pole. I secured them with a small screw, (about 3/4")

I drilled a larger hole to fit a larger lag screw,(about 2 1/2") This screw goes throught the pole/shovel handle, and into the end of the mananita branch. I predrilled the end of the branch in that this wood has a tendency to split.

And there ya go
