Toys and Parts.

Postby kaylayuh » Wed Mar 16, 2011 6:55 pm

Do you buy toys for your birds based on your preferances? Or do you watch what they play with most and buy multiples of their favorite style?

For those of you that make your toys, where is the best place to get your toy parts?

I buy toys in a combination of the styles I like and the styles that the birds seem to prefer. I really like to look of wood toys and rope, so they have mainly them. The budgies like bells so they get a lot of things with bells on them, and they do appear to like the acrylic toys. I don't really like the plastic/acrylic toys, so I tend not to buy them.

Einstein is the destroyer. Give him something to destroy, and he'll do it.

The budgies are hit and miss though. They tend to be more polite with their toys and have never broken one yet. They like to destroy their perches.

I recently bought a bunch of toy parts. I went to my local craft store and bought a bunch of wood parts. I've spent hours dying the wood, and this weekend I'm buying some stainless steel wire. It's going to save me a lot of money making their toys myself.

I'm a sucker for buying things that I think are cool, but I try not to make the same mistake again when something doesn't work out. With destroy-toys that I make using bought parts and leftover components from commercial toys I play around with what I make so the process stays fun. And Scooter has a couple of toys that I have extras of, neither is a chew-up type thing, but I suspect he'd never be the same without them. So there are extras in case they become unavailable.

We did somehow lose his cone-head paper tube and I'm still trying to remember what it came with so I can get another one. It was the same size as TP roll core, but much thicker.
