DIY Double Perch

Postby kaylayuh » Sun May 08, 2011 8:52 am

Have any of you tried making perches out of wooden dowels for your birds? I saw a really neat double perch with wood blocks in the middle and I'd like to try making something similar. If you have made these or something similar, what types of wood and glue did you use? Is there a certain wood that lasts longer than others?

Yes, i've made several different ones, i use fir or pine, untreated of course, if you drill your holes alittle undersize ,you won't need glue.

I never even thought to have the holes drilled undersized. That's a great idea, thanks!

That sounds cool, do you have pictures?

here's another perch idea I used to use with my cockatiel. I would put seeds in the holes for her:

Oh, that's neat too! I'm torn between making the double perch or asking my boyfriend to weld aluminum circles together for me so I can make my own atom toy. I've seen them before, but I just justify their price.

I think eventually I'll try to make all the big name, expensive toys.. like the jolly ball, the atom, and a climbing net.
