Never Bored Toy?

Postby Michael » Thu May 19, 2011 9:47 am

Have you ever discovered a toy that is so great that you can keep buying the same toy over and over again for your parrot and it never gets tired of it?

I still have yet to find this for Truman. He seems to go through phases instead. He'll like plastic stuff for some time, then wood, then fabric, then back to plastic. Toys he used to love he now ignores. Still haven't found the magic toy he can enjoy over and over again.

I have found Jo's. Its a a wooden cube/ladder kind of thing with a bell. Yes I know, sounds kind of boring but he loooooves it. I bought her one more that is a little smaller cos she loves it so much.

Edit: I found a picture, she has the small and the big one and loves to chew on the wood. She is sitting on the big one right now playing with the bell

Mojo goes through phases. A type of toy that was a favorite last month will get completely ignored this month but then be the only toy he wants to play with the next. The only toy he really consistantly plays with is similar to the one in the picture below. It stays in his cage and I usually come home to him hanging upside down on it having a great time.

Any type of soft wood (like Bird Kabob toys) gets destroyed in minutes. Every time one of those come home it's the only thing that exists in Mojo's eyes until it's completely destroyed and scattered all over my floor.

Pele's favorite toy is her bell. It's hung on three large rings that are linked together and I always hear her playing with it. I haven't been able to really find much else that she consistantly likes besides destroying her rope and wacky wood perches. She also loves chewing on sheets of paper. I'm pretty sure she'd be content with only having her bell in her cage though!

I recently ordered some tiny high top converse shoes - they are exact replicas with the rubber sole and canvas uppers, little rivets in the sides and a shoestring of course. Pippin and Ibby LOVE these! They can't get enough of them. I sometimes put a treat inside but even without, it will keep them occupied for a long time. I've actually been trying to find them online to buy in bulk but no luck so far.

I had one custom made at Things for Wings.

It got named "Poi Garden" - hmm, I wonder why

The first time I ordered it - can't find the picture alone but they are featured on this blog post.

This was the second time I ordered - I changed the pine for balsa, which much appreciated it seems ;)

There is also this toy that I get at "Les Jouets Rosie". Made of balsa. Never lasts very long!

Rory absolutely love love loves those little plastic balls you can get for cats, the type with bells inside and holes in the outside. He snatches them off me playfully and will dive to the ground to go grab it (they're not a fan of going to the floor so he obviously loves it!). And with the holes in it he can grab it with his beak or foot, I just wish I could get them a little smaller, they're about twice the size of his head!

This is Akila's favourite.
http://www.petstages.com/birds/playing/dome-pull.html

He loves the rubbery texture of the dome, and trying to get the jingle-bell out (which is impossible, for a senegal beak anyway). Unlike in the picture, the dome is actually somewhat transparent so he can see the little bell in there. I've heard him playing with this toy every morning since I got it, it seems to be his favourite thing to do while waiting for me to get out of bed. Fortunately it's not very loud.

I like this brand of toys but don't see the ones for bird around much.

My bird LOVES this homemade toy! It's basically loads of straws stuffed with seed tied together. So simple yet my tiel loves it. Easy to make and indestructible!
