Well, I haven't thought it out fully, but u can try using PVC pipe and PVC pipe connectors for the main frame. Then add some toys and there u go.

Since I don't get out of the house very often I had to make my own. I cut a big tree branch and put it in the Christmas tree stand to give Myrtle a new play area until I can do better. She even sleeps in her tree.

You can hang toys on it. I put a cardboard egg carton on it last night. She woke up this morning before me and tore it to shreds. It looks like she had fun.

I went to the local hardware store and bought some dowel rods and some rope and just kinda got creative in the garage. I threw this together in a little less than an hour. Kiwi LOVES it. I slotted all the legs of it so it can sit on top of the cage without worries of it sliding around, or i could just set it on whatever table is closest to me.

That is indeed a great idea. I've been thinking about doing something like that too, but I didn't know how to handle the issue of the base because I'm not handy. Christmas tree stand solves that perfectly.

What type of tree did you use? I've heard that eucalyptus is safe for birds? We have so much of that around here I'm tempted to just cut down a sapling, tear off the leaves, clean and dry it, and then prop it up.

Once I mouse-proof the art studio, I'm going to set it up as a bird room. I want a bird tree stand in there because it seems like the thing to do.

The branch base is about 3 inches diameter and was cut off our red tips. Red tips are suppose to be a bush with the new growth in the spring being red. Ours grew 20 feet high and out of control and had to be trimmed.

I have seen the outside birds playing with red tip leaves so I left the leaves on. My kids made a mess but had fun picking the leaves off and dropping them to the floor.

I don't know about eucalyptus. I thought they were poisenouse. I know that all maples are good. We are in different regions so I don't know what you have. Heck, I am from Pittsburg PA and had not seen a red tip until I got here.

I was afraid of buying wood for a gym. So much of it is treated with who knows what.

There is a product called Just One Bite that can be used for mice. They die after one feeding and dehydrate so they don't stink if they die inside. Most will go back out in search of water. It is pet safe. Only rodents eat it and they cannot throw up because of a valve in their stomach. If another pet gets it they will get sick and throw up. Don't get the pellet bags. Get the weather proof bars so they won't disolve when they get damp.
