Hello. I was wondering if anyone knew of a cheap but bird safe backpack that our guy can play with. He's taken a liking to hopping onto all sorts of my bags (insulated lunch bag, Jansport backpack etc). I'm not sure if the zippers are bird safe, ie stainless steel. Actually, I'd bet money they probably contain zinc. Anyone know of these types of items that are made with stainless steel hardware? Thanks!
Just for everyone's info, I posted this question on Phoenix Landing's forum. Turns out this behavior is likely nesting related and encouraging it would encourage hormonal-ness. So I won't be pursuing it after all. Ugh! Just when he found a "toy" he was interested in, turns out it's just him being territorial and wanting more pair bonding instead! Plus most zippers do contain zinc and now I'm hearing of all sorts of horror stories of birds swallowing metal things. So never ever let your bird play with anything that contains metal parts unless you know it's stainless steel or entirely nickel. And even then supervision is key.
Poor birdy, lost his 'toy' before he got it. Thanks for the response back, good to know this info. I have nothing in any of the cages to encourage nesting, especially as I have 1 girl budgie and 1 girl (TBC) tiel.
Budgies - Harry and Billy Cinn GCC - Bailey Blue Quaker - Malakai (Kai) Cockatiel - Rhyly
I have a basket of toys (plastic lids, bells, pieces of string and etc.) that I hang from Myrtles tree in a basket. She does not consider it a nest. It is more like a toy box. I see birdie butt alot when she is looking for the right toy.
