need new and different toys

Postby coral » Tue Sep 13, 2011 3:27 pm

Okay so I have a blue headed pionus I adopted who didn't know how to play. He started to chew on these thin color sticks and play a little bit with foot toys! Im not sure where to get good foot toys the pet stores around here don't have any thing he doesn't already have and I want him to play with some bigger toys that last longer any ideas?

Are you looking for online stores? There are a lot of online stores that sell bird toys, here are a few I've ordered from:

California Bird Nerds
Grey Feather Toys
Persnickety Parrot
The Birdsafe Store
Things For Wings

I would suggest getting him some really solid toys that will last a long time and then expect the rest of the toys to have shorter life spans. The Cagemount Buffet Ball is great and will last a long time. I have two of them and love them. Some stainless steel toys from Grey Feather Toys will probably last forever. All these stores also have plenty of foot toys and Things For Wings has a really nice selection of special woods and toys. The best kind of toy is one that can be shredded into a huge mess or thrown loudly against the floor over and over and over and over again.

I love, love, love Things for Wings!!! www.thingsforwings.ca
She's located in Canada but ships from Washington every week to offer low shipping to US residents :)

I've also been meaning to order from these places, all of which have GREAT testimonials from people I know!

www.greyfeathertoys.com
www.oliversgarden.com

I would send an email or two to a few vendors and ask for what their Pionus customers enjoy most, as they do have a variety of happy birdie customers!

What kinds of bigger toys have you offered him?

Are you looking for wooden toys, mechanical toys, foraging toys, shredding toys, or something else? Or all of the above?

i ordered some new toys today so maybe he'll like these! i also made some i ordered a bunch of wood parts because he likes to chew. some things to make foot toys. yucca wood pieces to chew and also pine blocks and dowls. he also is getting a hanging yucca and pine toy. i hung up a toy today that is thick cardboard and has little blocks of wood, i also hung up a bead boing type thing which when i held it he tested some of the beads with his beak but now he wont look at it now that is hung up. he started playing with his pinata cuz he finally noticed it has peanuts in it. but really all he seems to like are the pine blocks and dowels :/

If your in the UK, try this site for some new toys for him.
http://www.rosscosparrotproducts.co.uk/

They might have what your looking for. I buy all of Rio's toys from here. Fair prices and quick delivery response. Postage is a little high but works out well if you buy multiple items as the postage is just a 1 off cost.

Good luck in your search for new toys. It can be pain finding something you like the look of but your bird just doesnt want to know, lol.
