Echo won't play

Postby SKOShields » Wed Sep 28, 2011 1:09 pm

When I picked Echo up he had a rather large rope toy that looked like he played with often, as well as a little rawhide and bead toy that had a few little bite marks on it. Well now that he's home he won't touch anything! All he does is sit on his little rope perch and preen himself or climb over and eat. He's absolutely terrified of the plastic toys we got him as well as the swing we picked out.
Could it be that he's just not used to being with us yet?

It may be bc he has a new way to entertain himself, he torments my dog lol. Hell sit on his lowest perch and just whistle and chirp and taunt her. He'll even go as far as to hang on to the side of the cage and do it.

LOL

I think it's just that he /she is just getting used to your house, Ladu took 1 or 2 weeks before he started playing with toys. he only really started playing with toys when he started trusting me, dunno why?

Yea I guess I'm just rushing it.
I just really wish he'd quit teasing Nova, I'm about to look her as it is if she won't stop whining and he isn't helping.

Errr, birds don't really like plastic toys. Stores sell them because the cheap price attracts customers, but plastic isn't a popular material among birds anyway. Birds like natural materials like wood, rope, vine, woven baskets, etc.

try getting a bunch of different types of toys to see what he likes my guy didnt know how to play when he got here and it took him about 4 months to even feel comfortable enough to try so give it time he'll get curious about the toys once hes there long enough :)

I know it may sound strange but is it possible that Ecko and Nova could be building a friendship. I have heard of stranger ones.

In my house, Rambo and Myrtle are dominant over the dogs and cats.

I'm seeing this, it was one of those where u put the treat in the top and they rock it back down. Well I hung it up on his play top and he flew away.

The toys in his cage now are the ones he came with, I just kept them in there so he'll have somethin familiar till he gets used to us, but he won't even play with those.

And it seems like Echo wants to maybe be friends, but nova just doesn't know what to make of him, and the times we've tried introducing them she got all rowdy and tried to lick him so that ended quickly.

:amazon2: Myrtle likes plastic bottle caps. She likes any plastic lid, even off the detergent bottle. I put them in the dishwasher to sanitize them and then put them in a hanging planter on her tree. She loves to rumage through the planter to see what new lids I put in.

I clipped a paper grocery bag to her tree last night just over a horizontal perch. She slept under the bag.

He played a little bit today, I'm not sure if it was playing or if the toy was just in his way. Either way, he payed it any attention.

I also got a little love in the form of regurgitation today, so I guess were making progress in the trust department too.
