Hi, I am currently in the stages of starting to build a new cage, got most of the materials in the garage, however I still got some things to figure out before I start and have to redo it... The cage will be made for a corner so one short side and the back wont be with bars, but with a wall instead.. however I would like to do something more than just a plain wall in the background, so my thoughts went to create a "stonewall" like a peice of a mountainside... wich i think would look absolutely awesome, however.. ive ran into a bump here.. and that is the material... my first thought was to make a mold and then do the background in concrete (no worries I havnt bought the concrete, and i've already figured the problem...) with a 3meter (almost 10feet) long and 1,5 meter high and with an average thickness of 6 inches... it would wight in at about 1400 kilos... even if i managed to decrease the average thickness to half this is still a lot of weight to the cage, and it is supposed to be on the second floor... My question is if anyone has any ideas of a material that is safe for the bird and not soft enough to be chewed on... and preferebly waterresistant so that I can add some water into it...
Would really like an exciting background to the cage like a mountainside with vines hanging along it (even if the vines might actually be ropes) but you get the idea, any tips? considering the background would affect the bottomtray and how i will place the supportsin order to distribute potential weight I kind of need to figure this out before I start building... even if i want the cage to be done now!
Also even with concrete a lighter version could be made by adding other materials in the center, the question is then how thick would the toplayer of concreate/cement have to be for an amazon to not be able to destroy it? if anyone has any ideas, I know it is not a buildingforum but thought people here might have done some research prior and found the answer
