The Cube, DoItYourself Version ^^

Postby Julianajara » Wed Feb 08, 2012 6:08 pm

:irn: Hiiii guuuys!! Im so happy I can't even explain myself hehe
Well for those who didn't see it yet, this is the original Cube:

viewtopic.php?f=22&t=4055

For me, a brazilian, it was impossible to buy, because of the shipping price and impossible to build it with the pieces because here we don't have the especial/non-toxic Pvc and stuff.
So following some pieces of advice from people on the forum I found a way of doing "the Cube" by myself. I used a drill, screws, cheap perches, some hooks and chains and a sisal rope (because I couldn't find ANYWHERE a cotton one)
And I couldn't let to show you guys how it is!! Because I loved, also my Indian Ringneck.

Holy diver!!! You did an amazing job!!!! :D I'd rather buy one of yours than the PVC version! I love the "natural" look of yours vs the PVC one. Yours looks much sturdier as well. :) very good job!!

Omg omg so glad you guys liked hehe I spent hole day doing it! Well the screw ware 5 cm and they ware steel for no Rust. So i bought 3 long perches and cut them, so each edge has 24 cm, exept for the middle ones that has 16 cm, so it turns a cube not a rectangle. Bit its hard tomexplain hou i did it just writing, I will draw.
Please, click on the link, because if i post here you wouldn't be able to read it ^^

looks great Julianajara!!
I want to change my strings now to a more natural looking ones! the one i did the sticks is just over half a mater tho, and i did the net on 5/6 sides, so takes a lot of ropes to tie it up.

But again, really well done, once you start making some toys more and more ideas will come to your head and you will be more and more conftible doing it becouse you know (atleats beleive you do) where to begin, and starting a project is always the hardest part :)

Wow your cube is big, what bird do you have Polarn?
yeah, projecting and thinking how I would do the toy took me a while, but nothing is harder than cuting wood with a saw when you are 1.52 m ^^

I would like to do more and sell, but my classes at university are about to start and I will have no more time hehe.

I've decided I'm going to make one too.
I'm going to use plain dowel perches the way you did, Juliana, but I might consider dyeing the wood.
It'll probably take me a few weeks though since I don't have any tools at my place and would have to wait til I travel to my parents' so I can borrow my dad's things!
I'll post a picture when i've got it done :)
