I got mine on Amazon for $13.99

What other foraging toys do you have for your GCC? I struggle to find appropriate foraging toys for Ollie as they are mostly made for bigger parrots.

Here are a couple pics of the first ones I got for him.

Simple one, he just has to lift the lid and get the treat.

Triple version of the first one. Each cup gets harder as the weight of the upper ones are on it.

The cardboard box in the above pic is also a favorite, I add it to his cage and he instantly goes at it.

Aw, can see how interested he is in his box. Its a shame Ollie wont shred or chew things because I could make loads of cheap toys otherwise. I considered getting those plastic cup things but wasn't sure he would be able to get in them.

just to give you some ideas on what you can look for, i went in and searched for refillable foraging that northern parrot think suits small conures. here is the resultlist (i know some of them picture larger birds, but a smaller bird can usually handle them and sometimes they have different sizes of toys once you click into the article):

I usually get my toys there for Ollie, alot of them say they are suitable for him but he really cant operate them, the barrel of fun for example its just too stiff for him to twist to open it so I decided to just push it shut but not 'lock' it and it just slides right back open so its nothing more than a decoritive food bowl to Ollie. Same with the Turn `n` Learn Logs and snack rack, he can't turn them or lift them so it puts me off buying that type of thing now because they are expensive, I can see he knows how to use them because I can see he tries. Don't get me wrong , he has a ton of toys but he just wont use them or only will outside of his cage.

ahh that was quite booring, I've just bought things for the amazon there, but he is "a bit" bigger so never experienced problem with doing a species search there. but then I am more worried about his things being made for small birds so that he breaks them quick rather than slightly oversized.

too bad he isnt a chewer, makes the foraging process quite inexpensive and easy to make... have you tried one of them seesaw ones, or are the spring in them too strong for the weight as well? in that case the spring can be changed tho. It basicly requires him to pull down in one end to get the treats or food to come to him rather than beeing in the bottom of it. Polarn grabs it and presses down, but guess their might actually be big enouch for a conure to sit on instead and dont have to do that extra work och pushing down..

marie83 wrote:I bought the same foraging wheel for £22 for my green cheeked conure and he had it sussed out in a few hours too. He might know how to work it but it does slow down getting the food opposed to getting it in a bowl so I still feel it's worth it because it keeps him occupied that bit longer. Even if I feed him in the bowl and wheel he will go to the wheel for his food first. It is expensive but at least with the size of a GCC it's unlikely to get broken so should last for years.

I think theres a more complicated version now in different sizes for different types of parrot.

**edit** just had a look and this is the updated version. Not sure but it doesn't actually look harder but I could be wrong.

I never use foraging wheel and think to buy one, thank you for advice :)

*grin* I *HAD* the same toy for Jacko----took her maybe 10 minutes....she climbed up and worked/popped the bolt off the middle of the wheel and watched the lid clatter to the cage floor....and then proceeded to help herself to all the goodies inside
