When i was at the Think Parrots show, i saw someone with a African Grey in one of the backpacks and it was fairly big and the grey seemed ok with it since he could see out.

Did you see the tiny woman with the eclectus on her back? She seemed to forget the parrot was on her back and kept bending over to look at stuff so the poor parrots was practically sideways :(

The strollers may look 'lame' but for that reason above I think they are a much better idea. Personally I wouldn't do either though cuz I would feel daft but on that note its better to get a parrot out and about experiencing new things where possible so if things like this encourage people to do that then they should be supported not shot into flames. I sound so hypocritical there.... lol

mya :corella: is at a standstill with harness training, still trying, but i'm back to thinking about the stroller. i don't like the backpack since it would be on my back and make it hard for me to give her attention that she needs.plus doesn't seem to healthy for my back.i would rather look 'lame' than to have her out of my sight when she doesn't like to be closed up and will pull her feathers out when she's stressed.

aww a standstill is better than going back a stage. Just keep working at the level she's comfortable at and you will get there in the end. I would love to know how Michael finds everything so blooming easy though

When you follow a "training minded" approach year round and work on teaching a new trick here and there, the parrot is super accustomed to training and learning. Even just 10 minutes a day 4 out of 7 days a week but consistently long term... then when you need to teach something new to parrot (like harness) it just takes a few days like teaching any other trick. But then there are people who "don't believe in training" and want to "let their parrot do whatever it wants." From that approach it can easily take 3 months to a year to harness train because you have to start everything completely from scratch (presence, clicker, target, tame, tricks, diet, trust, history, harness). This is why I recommend everyone to perform basic training and taming with their parrots to maintain tameness for when you need to teach a practical behavior.

Well I can't speak for other people but I know I do quite alot of training with Ollie. Had to stop the harness training again for the soreness under his wings but still practicing the headcollar part so were ready to go again once we have a diagnosis, his fully recovered amd forgotton he was sore. Still practicing other training atm too but I've held off from training him new things the past few weeks.
