Birds and button

Postby xxlazaro » Thu Mar 22, 2012 6:45 pm

Hello I have a baby Cockatiel and I pretty much wanted to know if it would be a good idea to give him a button to play with. Any advice is appreciated

Thank You :greycockatiel: :D

Depends on the button. How big is it? is there any change of the birds claw getting stuck in the middle holes? Most buttons unfortunately and a good size for getting wedged onto a claw even if it is unlikely to happen. Should be safe if its a large button and the middle holes are wider than the claw

Thank You so much I truly appreciate your advice.I do think I have big buttons for him to play with. Again thank you so much for your help.I couldn't help but notice in your info that you had a cockatiel named Tico.I too had one named Tico but unfortunately passed away due to seizures :( It is sad to loose a feathered friend but others come along. I also think the that your conure is really cute.

Thanks again :greycockatiel: :D

Thank you, I think so too. Tico was another of my rescues, her parents abandoned her at weaning so I finished handfeeding her a bit whilst weaning her. She was a very tame, loving bird and would hiss at you until you scratched her head and start again as soon as you stopped. Unfortunately one morning just short of her turning 1 year old I found her on the cage floor with a broken neck. Can only assume it was night fright. Its very sad to lose any pet, I was devestated.

That is very sad :( I am very sorry but I know that the time he lived with you he must have been very happy. And now you have other friends with you. When my Tico passed away I was sad but now I have another buddy :)

Again Thank You :D :greycockatiel:

I am so sorry that you lost your baby.

Plastic bottle caps and plastic jar lids are a favorite of my birdies.

My birds love to play with buttons (especially my brown-headed parrot).

It can be dangerous if the buttons are too small or if they get their claw stuck in one of the holes so what I did to address these issues is I bought a piece of fabric and a bag of buttons (assorted shapes, colors, and sizes) and I sewed them onto the fabric. I hang the piece of fabric on a toy hook and now they can play with the buttons safely. :-)

Rambo is a Double Yellow Headed Amazon. He looks just like this :amazon: . He had a bad wing clipping with his first owner (I am 3rd) and cannot fly very well. He is my pedestrian. He is definatly a handsom boy. He can also hold a conversation. He amazes me daily.

I also have Myrtle, a Blue Front Amazon. I let her wings grow back when I got her. There is a picture of her in the photo section. She amazes me daily.
