Mirrors?

Postby RJGIII » Tue Jun 05, 2012 11:21 am

My :senegal: has recently discovered mirrors. Our house is full of them and now that his wings are grown in he can fly pretty well and we've just began flight training. He has not discovered that it is him in the mirror and he does mating displays at his reflection for basically as long as I allow him to. At least i think its mating and not aggression. So my question is, do i just let him have the mirrors as his guilty pleasure and hope in time he discovers they aren't other birds? or should i immediately remove him from the mirrors when he flies to them?
thanks

mirrors are fine as long as he is not being aggressive to you i always advise removing the mirrors when bringing in a new bird before you have a chance to bond.it destracts the bird from you and he could become possesive and try to protect it from you.

My peach front used to do that, he rarely saw a mirror but when he did he would begin displaying to his own reflection. I think sometimes mirrors are ok but I would be wary of it increasing a birds sexual frustration as it can lead to other behavioural problems in much the same way imprinting on humans can lead to issues.
