I've been trying to find ways of purchasing bird safe wire to make some toys. I'm just not sure what is safe or isn't. I'm finding a lot of silver plated (tarnish free), brass (tarnish free), brushed nickle and Aluminum wires. Does anyone now if any of these are safe for birds? Or do I just need to stick with stainless steel wire?
If you can afford it I would stick with stainless steel than taking a chance on something else. It will last longer and it will look 'new' unlike other metals which tarnish and look shabby. If costs an issue you can always re-use stainless and make other toys out of them. I think I read somewhere that brass should be avoided but I cannot remember why for the life of me but then other people say its fine sooo...
Thanks guys. The more I think about it the more I want the stainless Steel anyway. I guess part of my problem I'd FINDING it. Even the bird toy sites I've gone to don't have it. They are selling brushed nickel and such. I'm going to a craft store tomorrow in hopes of finding stuff there. I've even looked in hardware stores and can't find it. I did however get a suggestion from my mom, I'm going to go to a pet store and see if I can't find a stainless steele dog leash that I can convert.
