Branches for Cage?

I'm looking into getting some fresh branches w leaves for Iago's cage- just as a special play toy. I am wondering which trees are recommended and safe? I know to stay away from pesticides etc being sprayed onto the branches. I found a list of safe woods/non safe woods, and it states Oak isn't safe. Anyone know why?

I heard it was because of the tannins.

I use manzanita or madrone wood. :]

Earlier this summer, I collected alot of branches and made them into perches. I used them for a travel cage. The birds love how uneven the perches are. I was even able to hang a couple toys in there. I think branches are great for cages, just as long as they're safe!

Besides the fact that birds seems to like natural branches it is really what you should use for perches in cages to keep their little feet healthy. English isn't my native tongue so i dont know the name for all the trees growing here in english and a lot of the woods I see recommended on here isnt even growing around where I live. But I'd stick with what's recomended or listed as safe for the birds.
