A great budgie toy..

Postby AlbertaAviary » Tue Aug 21, 2012 10:00 pm

So I have two budgies. Cocoa doesn't 'play' but Yoshi does. He has an unusual favorite toy. What is it? He likes twigs!

I first figured this out when Yoshi and Cocoa were in my yard. My mom had just finished pruning a bush and there were twigs scattered across the grass. Yoshi picked one up and ran around with it in his beak. I tried to take it from him and he wouldn't let go! He was just like a puppy with a rope. I picked up a few twigs and we went inside.

The next day, I wanted to know what he'd do if I attached some to his cage. I checked on the twigs two days later and he had chewed all the bark off of them.

Yoshi invented a little game with twigs. I put a twig on the table, chair, rock, or whatever he's sitting on. He'll go running over to it and throw it off. I'll put it back on and he throws it off! It goes on about six or seven times.

If you have a small bird, try giving them a twig and see what they do. Yoshi loves 'em. :budgie:

Not suprising really , what would they do in the wild.

Just make sure you check your twigs are safe for birds if you havent already and be sure to give them a good soak, scrub and allow to dry before allowing your birds near them.

Not to surprising all of mine chews the bark off their perches or any branches/twigs they are given. Usually I change their perches ones the bark on the upper side is gone. This keeps all of them except the budgie chewed off to avoid chewing my trims. Well not all the time but most of the time. Polarn sometimes climbs the ropes of his swing up chewing on my previous beautiful wooden roof. The budgie is atleast once a day ontop of a door or window frame chewing away and I have to chase her off... But yeah I thing debarking twigs and branches are a healthy way to stay occupied. But as mentioned above clean em and check what's not poisonous for em.
