cleaning coconut shells

Postby pionus » Wed Aug 29, 2012 11:15 pm

so i have been looking for a way to sterilize coconut shells to use as toys for my future bird. i don't feel comfortable using bleach, and i have no idea how i could bake them in the oven without ruining them.
any advice appreciated!
If it looks like a duck, and quacks like a duck, we have at least to consider the possibility that we have a small aquatic bird of the family anatidae on our hands.

You could try baking just one and see how it turns out? They are faily cheap so if it goes wrong then there is nothing lost really, just buy another.
I tend to leave stuff like that to soak for a few hours in F10, leave to dry then bake them. Just dont forget like I did with my fir cones- they came out cremated lol.

Scrape every bit of cocoanut out. Wash it until you can't feel anything in it. Fill it with water and pur it in the microwave until the water boils. Let it set until it is cool. Then check the inside again to make sure there is no residue.
