Bringing Kili to the Vet

Bringing Kili to the Vet

Kili broke a wing feather yet again. This one was from the ongoing second molt so I've been quite concerned about potential nutrition or health problems leading to all these breakings. I share how I brought her to the vet and include some pictures/video.

Does anyone have any ideas what I could do to help her with the feathers? Take a look at the picture and see how the top feather looks. It is not quite at the stage of a mature feather like the one that molted from the other wing. This one hadn't even finished growing in. Any sense of why it would fall out right now?

Let me just mention that I decided not to bring Truman to the vet for a followup because he had just started to get better in very small increments. I really did not want to take a chance of stressing him into not eating again so decided he'd get more benefit out of staying home and relaxing.

Ahahahaha! Yes, birds do know how to relax! And they are so content with such simple pleasures, aren't they?

GooseBlossom has had unexplained tail feather issues most of his life. I am interested in following Kili's progress and hopefully will get some new insights.

That is strange. Especially since one wingis doing just fine and the other one isnt.
That one remaining feather, is that a new one or an old one? And the feathers that have broken, is the tip still in the wing?

I read an article a couple of months ago about molt, and I am pretty sure I picked it up from this site somewhere. I just cant remember where. Just in case it was on another forum I'll post it here again.

If you lived in Holland I would advice you to try 'Bogena Ruihulp' by Beaphar (Bogena molting aid). A lot of people I know swear by it. I believe this is the american equivalent of it:

Its on the second page of products.

Whew! Thank goodness there isn't anything wrong with Kili. It's no surprise that she won the hearts of the entire vet's office.

I agree with Kim. Years ago I had the same kind of problem with my grey.. it was almost sure that it had to do with molting. One wing was perfect.. that other one was very weak and vulnerable. Glad Kili is doing fine!
