For those of you that clicker train your bird(s), I was wondering who has a bird that imitates the clicker and, if so, in what context do they use the click?
My brown-headed parrot does a very good imitation of the clicker ("click click") and he seems to use it to mark desired behavior in me.
I never hear him do it when he's alone (such as in the morning when he's in his cage and goes through all of his words and calls and noises) but I hear it several times a week during his interactions with me and he only seems to do it after I (or sometimes by husband) have done something he wants.
Today, for example, I had him outside for about an hour and he got fidgety and and I could tell he wanted to go inside and the second I stepped through the door with him he clicked at me.
Sometimes when he wants a bath he says "take a bath" and if I then place him in the sink and turn the water on he clicks at me (and he only gives me a click if he asks for a bath first).
About a month ago I was eating a sweet potato and I usually give him a piece but for whatever reason this time I had not, and he came over and stood near me and just stared at me and finally I cut off a small piece for him and the instant I handed to him he clicked at me.
How does your bird use "the clicker"?
