Naming my Senegal

Postby Strawfrawg » Mon Mar 04, 2013 10:57 am

Okay...I am making a list of names for my new Sennie, and I thought I'd give you guys some input. I want to have a list ready when he comes home so I can have something to work with as I see what fits. Ideas? The breeder feels confident from 43 years of experience that it's a boy.

My boyfriend's Sennie was named Akeyo (Ah-KEE-yo), and the bird could say her name clearly. It's a unisex name, so it's on the list. So is Henry. Ernie, Wendell, and Oscar are also under consideration so far. I really like Beakman, but I don't want to use the word "beak" in his name because that needs to be its own word for training reasons.

If it looks like a duck, and quacks like a duck, we have at least to consider the possibility that we have a small aquatic bird of the family anatidae on our hands.

One piece of advice, don't set on a name till you have the bird. It's a good idea to have a list and throw names around. But when you have the bird, you'll just KNOW when you got the right name.

That's so true. We had definite names for my daughter but when she was born none of them seemed to fit. It took us three days of poring over name books and trying names on for size but then eventually we came across one that just fit immediately.

Agree with Michael ans janetafloat, have a list by all means but dont set your heart on using one of the names. I had a list of 10 names for Ollie but when he came home not a single one felt right, eventually he kinda picked his own name, I never actually wanted to call him Ollie but it was one I tried out a few days after he arrived and he responded immediately.
