Bird music and TV faves

Postby Strawfrawg » Sat Apr 13, 2013 3:43 pm

Do your birds have favorite songs and TV shows?

Marvin is hooked on the song "Thrift Shop" by Macklemore and Ryan Lewis. He heard it on the radio and went nuts for it, chirping and bobbing along. This was the first song he really showed interest in. Play just a few notes and he stops what he's doing and listens.

Of all things, he also likes Gordon Ramsay...in anything...and watches him intently. He also tunes in closely to The Big Bang Theory. Everything else is just background for him.

HAHAHAHAHA!!! I can't help but laugh at the thought of Marvin liking Gordon Ramsay.

mine aren't concerned about the tv at all, Ollie does like a little bit of rock though.

We are still trying to figure out what music our bird likes. So far...nothing! So I hope more people post to this topic and can give me some more ideas!

Its rock music all the way here, although Leroy had a Lady Gaga-phase after hearing Poker Face on the radio (he started humming the tune)!

oh no! I remember when my older sister was crazed about that song. that was not a fun time in my childhood. I'm pretty sure I know most of the lyrics now. :?

but in a bird.... pretty much anything but biting, plucking, screaming, pooping, and barfing is cute.
If it looks like a duck, and quacks like a duck, we have at least to consider the possibility that we have a small aquatic bird of the family anatidae on our hands.

cml...ACK! GAGA! Note to self: Do not let Marvin listen to Poker Face.

kimberlyann...I spent a couple of hours experimenting to find out what kind of music Marvin likes, using Pandora, my iTunes library, and the music stations on my TV. Latin, African, Middle Eastern, and both American- and Asian-Indian music were all hits. He also likes Johnny Cash, inexplicably, and old soul music. I wasn't looking for a head-bobbing reaction, but rather a change in demeanor or rapt attention. He is starting to get into it more, though. He was jamming to Eminem's "White Trash Party" the other day, but by the time I scrambled for my phone to film it, he was distracted (or embarrassed?) and stopped.

Yeah, Gordon Ramsay is a weird TV idol for a bird. When Gordon starts shouting, Marvin emits a flurry of R2-D2 noises...random whirs and chirps that he does when he's excited. He extends his neck toward the TV and follows Ramsay's every move. He also loves it when Jeremy Wade lands a big fish on "River Monsters". He gets very caught up in the excitement of whatever he's watching.

His new thing is trying to play games with me on my iPad. He taps the screen with his tongue, which actually makes things happen (his beak doesn't get a response). He doesn't understand why he gets no response on the screen of my laptop. *sigh* He's a touch-screen generation bird. Makes me feel so old! If anybody here has a bird that likes the computer, try playing the kids' adventure game Poptropica. When I make my little avatar jump it drives Marvin wild trying to catch him with his beak.
