Since we have gotten our Mulga, we have had to adjust to many unusual and cute quirks that she brings to the table. Also, allow me to explain that this turkey loves, LOVES, her scratchies. She would and does aything to get those lovins that she so desires. This time it got weird.
Before I begin, I'l paint a scene for you.
Melody has her cage right next to our home's computer. She has always been there, and with good reason. We get on the computer, she gets to interact with us. Its not uncommon for my wife or myself to let her out and allow her to run around the keyboard or climb up on us whilest we browse the interwebs. Due to this being the daily norm for her, it is very likely that she would uncover some potential threat towards her birdy-daddy time. For a while now, we have been well aware of her hatred of the computer mouse.
Now let me tell you something about this mouse. This is the same evil Logitech mouse that is always stealing her scratchies, the same one that gets all the lovins, the same exact one that is trying to steal away mum n dad from "Mel-Mel". Dirty home wrecker. . .
It was a long day at work and I was just walking in. Usually she is let out as soon as I walk in the door. Its her norm, and is expected to be respected(at least in her mind). This time I forgot. I came in, kicked off the work boots and plopped down to check my facebook. I begin browsing. For what ever reason (wether it was designed to do this or if it is just worn out is beyond me) the mouse has always made this ratchet/clicking sound when you scroll on the mouse wheel. So, you could imagine the racket I was making checking my facebook. This noise was clearly aggitating her, and due to a half vegative mind because of my work day, I hadnt let the beast out of her cage. So I promptly opened up and she quickly ran into my cupped hands. I gave her some scratchies, she poofed up and was pretty blissed out. I moved her to my left hand so that I could free up the right so that I could continue being the Internet Warrior that I am. I procede to laugh at goofy cat photos and and other assorted internet goods. This meant that the scrolling clicking sound was back, and she began to grunt and move shuffle about. Melody had had enough of this crap.
Without any warning and faster than I have ever seen her sprint, she was forcibly, trying to remove my hand from the mouse, and out of shock I did. She then began the attack the rubber mouse wheel. She dragged it around by its cord, and flipped it over. Knowing that she had won, she climbed on top of it, as if it were her conquered blood nemisis, with wings spread as she did her "I-Win" dance. The red light from the mouse illuminated her silhouette making it almost comically dramatic. Once she was done gloating, she dropped back into my hands. I was far too busy laughing to pay much attention to her due to what I just whitnessed.
This clearly bothered her, and with good reason it should. She just defended the honor of her man-servant by single handedly engaging in birdy combat with the most hated and evil entity in the entire 4 foot radious of her cage. . .
As I was still trying to calm down, my cheeks were hurting because of the laughter, she began to grunt, and then it almost sounded like she was coughing. I shut up quickly, as I was more worried that she may have hurt herself some how by defending "my honor". I gave her some scratchies and proceded to investigate the matter. When I found nothing and stopped scratching, she began the noise again. The only way to describe it is it was somewhat of a purr, or three to five clicks that was being expelled with an almost musical rhythm. I scractched some more, she stopped, I stopped, she started, ect. Upon noticing that the mouse was still turned over, red glare against the wall opposite of me, it occured to me that she was now clicking like the mouse did when it was getting mum n dads "scratchies". This turkey now acts and sounds like my logitech mouse. She likes a hand to be hovered over her as if holding a mouse, and as if scrolling the wheel with your index finger, scratching her head while she clicks.
Just another day with this love-crazed birdy.
