Bubba died... HEARTBROKEN.

Postby Andromeda » Thu May 02, 2013 11:55 am

Bubba died this morning at the vet's. He was vomiting yesterday morning and he had lost 10g over the past week so we took him to the vet last night. He had been sick for MONTHS, at least since February. I took him to the vet over and over again and I spent over $1,000 on vet visits and he had EVERY TEST (CBC, Chem Panel, Aspergillus, Psitaccosis, intestinal parasite, sinus flush, cytology, culture) and everything came back normal. He was on two courses of antibiotics.

I called this morning around 9 AM and they said he was fine. Then they called around 12:30 and said he'd died. They tried to resuscitate him but they weren't able to do so.

I asked them to do a necropsy. I HAVE TO KNOW WHAT HAPPENED.

He was my best friend in the whole entire world. He was my cuddly little ball of feathered love and sunshine. He was my heart and soul. R.I.P. Bubba. You will never be forgotten and I will see you on the other side of the Rainbow Bridge.

I LOVE YOU AND YOU WILL LIVE IN MY HEART FOREVER. You were only 7! You were too young to die... I wish I could have had another 20 years with you... I love you my little baby.

Thanks, Michael, I appreciate the sympathy. I knew everything about keeping birds and everything was "bird-safe" in my house so I am very curious as to what happened. I will keep you all updated once I know the results of the necropsy.

I am personally suspicious that two courses of antibiotics back-to-back wiped out his liver.

I hope you're having your other bird thoroughly tested and cared for just in case.

My other bird's weight is completely stable and he is displaying no symptoms of any type of illness but I will bring him in for an emergency evaluation when I go to pick up Bubba's body after the necropsy. Thank you for pointing this out because I can't think straight right now.

I'm so very sorry. Bubba was so beautiful. We put our whole hearts into these birds and they give back their whole heart in return. I know you will miss him as much as he would miss you.

I'm eager to know what was wrong too. Please keep us posted!

I am so sorry! You cared for bubba so well, I bet he had an awesome life.

I hope the the tests for you other bird come back well, and do keep us updated.

I am so sorry for your loss.
If it looks like a duck, and quacks like a duck, we have at least to consider the possibility that we have a small aquatic bird of the family anatidae on our hands.

I am an (undiscovered) singer. I spend a lot of time practicing my voice. I made a cover of Radiohead's Reckoner. It's a song about rebirth and transcending death. I want to dedicate it to Bubba. If anyone would like to listen I would appreciate it SO much; it would mean the world to me because it's like my prayer for his little soul.

Listen to it here.

Thank you for caring and I appreciate all the support and thoughts. I can't tell you how much it means to have support right now. Pray for me if you believe in that and, if not, just think well for me and Bubba. :-) :gcc:
