The trouble with berries...

Postby KimberlyAnn » Tue May 28, 2013 9:51 pm

So, I came home to this today...

This morning when I left for work, I said to step daughter..."Emmi is not done with her berries, can you take her bowl out in an hour and wipe her beak off?" And she said, "Sure! No problem!"

Note the millet seed stuck in the left nostril. Off to take a bath right away! I don't think she's ever enjoyed a bath as much as she did tonight! Everything came off fast, thankfully.

Maybe a little stained, but who knows? Purple beak can be the next fad.

I'm a little bit worried that the food was in there all day. It was fresh berries so at least there's that. But, I should have known better! Teenagers...lol Never again!

Berries are fine left outside all day long. Most people in birdsites will tell you that food should be taken out after two hours but that's ridiculous. For one thing, the bacteria that causes decomposition is perfectly fine. For another, things do not rot in a matter of hours but even if they did, it would not harm a parrot. They LOVE half-rotten fruit! They would often much rather eat the ones that fell to the ground than the ones that are still in the tree.

Wait until you feed her pomegranate in the morning and forget about it and almost have a heart attack when you see poop that looks like blood all over the place! LOL

I thought as much. I was more worried about the seed stuck in her nose then anything else! The berry pretty much cemented it in. And berries cemented in her feathers everywhere! You can't really see it in the picture lol scary to come home to! Lol
