Ringneck with his new connect 4 game

Heyo,

We thought our little bird might like to try a new game so, this afternoon, we got him connect 4 (travel size).
I showed him the concept (by putting a yellow piece in), then let him sit on my finger for the first 4 counters to make it easier for him to reach. I went to get my phone from the bench and when I got back he had already started putting the red pieces in by himself! By the time I had made space on my phone, he was a seasoned professional!
The follow up is detailed below.
Game 4: against Dave, he did a skilful block and win (which I failed to film). Game: 5 Dave totally thrashed him, so I think game 4 was a fluke... I don't think he is grasping the idea of 1) winning 2)connecting 4... But still, he's only about 9 - 10 months old....and a parrot...and we haven't tried to explain the numbers concept to him... I'm impressed he even gets the pieces into the game already! Game 6: he decided it was time to sit on Daves shoulder and have a nap....
I do wish I had videoed game 4, cos we would have a YouTube sensation, 5 moves and the parrot wins!

My phone and my computer aren't talking so I had to upload from phone, sorry I would've chopped the last minute off otherwise.... (but isn't he cute anyway, even when he's not getting a concept).


I can't believe how clever these birds are! (he's our first bird).

Does anyone have any suggestions on how I could start teaching him the concept of lining up 4 pieces, now he's got the mechanics sorted out?

Awwww!

When he gets the wrong colour try taking it out and give him the right colour. Repeat until he picks up the right colour for himself. I've seen this done with a GCC and coloured rings.
