You know I'm about to get into trouble...

Postby KimberlyAnn » Fri Jun 07, 2013 1:04 pm

When I hunch my back and make little "Whoooooooa" noises very quietly while slowly inching closer, sideways to the thing that's off limits like THE PURSE OF EPIC TREASURES AND WONDER! (Mine) Or the BOX OF ENDLESS WHITE FLUFFY STUFF! (Tissue) ~ Emmi

How do you know your parrot is getting into trouble?

LOL - Mine can't get into any trouble with anything of mine because they are in their own room but a couple of them can be extremely cantankerous about sharing their space so, when I see a little budgie, a tiel or a small conure perching on one of the meanies spots, I tell them 'Be careful...' and I tell the meanie "I'm watching you!' And, when the meanie starts walking toward the little one, I say 'Be nice!' and, sometimes, they stop -but mostly they don't so I usually have to shush them off.

I wish I could have a bird room! I have so many ideas. There is an area that is called the fabulous 40's in my city. Big beautiful houses with garden rooms in the center of some of them, with sky lights and dirt floors and a small deck or patio. THAT would be my bird room.

Emmi is doing well with "Leave it!" But she still tries! Lol

my :rainbow: used to say "don't do it lori" that came from her home before me. she liked to get into other birds cages and laugh at them. when she did it in the home before mine there was a :macaw: who would tell her "don't do it lori". so i always knew when she was about to do somthing she wasn't suppose to because she would always say that when she was up to no good.

When Myrtle gets quiet I know she is into something.

Rambo gets so excited when he thinks of something to do that he goes "woo hoo" and gives himself away.

It's like having a two year old. Take everything away that you don't want them to get into. I cover my computer desk with a sheet. I have a helium baloon tied to the top of the lamp shade I had to replace. Myrtle was rounding the edges of all the doors she perched on. Helium baloons are taped on them now.

The house looks like a birthday party but it is the only way. Every one is telling me to cage her but I will never close a cage door on her. Rambo has never had his door closed.

I love them and just make allowances for them.

Nice to see you here Liz, we've missed you!

You're so right, they're just like 2 year olds. When Alfie goes quiet I know he's into something

I need to get some balloons. Emmi is a great flyer, even with clipped wings. When her wings grow out, I'm in trouble! Lol

I put corner beads all around the edges of the doors, sills and moldings in the birdroom - I use the plastic ones because you can paint over them so it doesn't look too shabby and, when they chew them, I just replace them. It's inexpensive and easy to do.

You mean corner beads for drywall? That's not a bad idea!

What are good ways to keep birds away from plants? I have safe plants in my home that I don't mind being chewed, but I have a very special elephant foot palm that I got from a family member that is no longer with us. I'd like to at least try to keep her away because this is the only thing I have from this person as most of their possessions were destroyed in the fire. So far, she's left it alone and thankfully she can do a lot of damage to the leaves, it's the thick trunk I'm worried about.
