The breeder will tell you that this is not true, that he has sold them at this age for ...... (insert number of years here) and that he/she has never had a problem but this is a salesman/lady talking (he/she will also tell you he/she doesn't do it for the money but, if this was true, he/she would not be selling the babies, he/she would be giving them away to good homes) PLUS if you go to what parrot parents do in the wild, you will find that they continue to feed their babies for much longer than just two months. BFA come from my part of the woods in South America and I can assure you the parents continue supplementing for much longer -sheesh, canaries feed their babies for over two months!

Babies that are weaned too fast usually end up with emotional and/or eating disorders so leaving her with the breeder is also not an option as he/she might not continue the hand-feeding.

I agree with you completely, though when she said 6-8 weeks I think she meant 6-8 more weeks, not 6-8 weeks from hatching.

Emsy is correct. My girl was born April 22. I am not getting her until aug 17th IF my breeder feels she's ready by then. Thanks anyway for the input. I'd never take a baby before it's ready and I've had two previously from breeders so I know how long it takes :)
