I have no idea i was told by the guy we got him from (as he was told by the guy he got him from) that he broke it as a baby. From what i read on leg bands(his is round piece of metal thats got a gap in it) that he is an import so who knows how it got broken.

If it just droops when folded in rest, it could be just soft tissue damage and not a fracture but you should have your AV take an X-Ray to make sure there is nothing that can be done.

As to his band, just because he doesn't have a closed band, it doesn't mean the bird is imported, lots of breeders use open bands but, if he is an import, you should be able to see the identification of the quarantine station he came in through on the open band. There will be a letter identifying the state where the facility was located, there were six of them: Florida - letter F, California - C and O, Michigan - M, Illinois - I, Louisiana - L and New York - N The letter will be followed by numbers (usually three) identifying the bird itself and, if the record still exist, it would tell you the year the bird was born and, maybe, who imported it. But, if you are in the States and he is a import, he must be, at least, 21 years old because you can't import birds without a closed band since 1992.

He's been like this since a baby. we are still trying to find an avian vet. there are also no writing on his band its just a piece of circular metal put on his leg.

I zoomed up the picture and saw the metal, my cockatoo had the exact same thing when I adopted him. It got dangergous, it caught on the bars and he would try yank his leg, one time I thought he hand broken his leg when he tried pulling his leg free, I got it removed. You should get it removed before something happens

Cockatielsong is right, open bands can be dangerous and, as it doesn't have any information on it, it's useless anyway...

it does have writing it is just so faded and worn down it was hard to see i had to get him to step up and a flashlight shined on it to even see the words. somebody said i was probably lied to about his age and its possible he was imported when it was still legal..tho the age thing makes no difference to me anyways. ill love him no matter his age.

today he's spent most of the day sitting on top of his cage, i bought him a new perch and a foraging toy and some more food and treats. he just put himself back into his cage. also bought Marley a toy which he promptly tore into and when he let go it bonked him and now he's staring at it like its going to come alive and eat him...its a preening toy so im hoping when he gets into one of those moods when he pulls his new feathers out he'll use that instead like he does with some of his rope toys.
