Some somewhat bad and some really good news!

Postby emsy991 » Tue Jul 09, 2013 6:01 pm

Hello all!

We will start with the bad news... for those of you who read my intro post, you may remember that I wrote about my excitement about adopting a beautiful 10 year old double-yellow headed female :amazon: from Boston in August. They haven't responded to my emails in a while and this is fishy to me, so i decided against this (craigslist can be fishy).

Before I found and fell in love with this amazon, I was looking for a conure (specifically a dusky) with little luck. Thanks to another parrotforum user, tacotaco, I found a wonderful breeder who happens to have a baby dusky conure that will be ready in FOUR WEEKS (which is when I return to the states from Italy)!!! That is the good news, I found the baby for me!

The more I read about the dusky the more I fall in love. The breed is perfect for my personality, financial needs, and family. I am extremely excited and will probably proceed with this adoption. The breeder is official, with bands and all, and has great ratings on birdbreeders.com! He will be sending me weekly photos once I put a deposit down to reserve my baby and I will bring him home in mid-August!

Finding the right baby is quite the adventure!

I wish you luck... buying a baby from a commercial breeder is always a lottery.

I am unsure what you mean, but would love to hear more (I have not put down a deposit and would like to gain more information). What defines a commercial breeder? I have spoken with people who have received his babies and they said they were the most social, hand-tame, and sweet birds they have adopted. He does not have many babies at once or any more than he can handle. I do not want to make a wrong decision and have not put down a deposit, so I would love to hear more of what you mean. Thanks!

I forgot to mention how available he is, it is wonderful! I sent him an email with an abundance of questions, just to play it safe, and he answered all of them very thoroughly. He also plans to send me baby photos at least once a week (fingers crossed for DAILY) :hatched:
