greater jardines retry

Several months back, a greater jardines hatchling was lost. I took faith that the poor thing would not be the last, but time passed and three clear clutches later, no pgm. Then i got a call from Jean pattison. After a little convincing, she's agreed to no clipping on my greater and now the baby is nearly weaned. It's taken the better part of a year, but it appears i will finally be joined in life with my Masai. Pictures when i get home this morning.

Let's see.. How do we identify a fledgling greater from black wings and lessors? For me, only the beak, since the plumage is still several molts from adult.

The baby is coming in one week! It's at least a week sooner than I expected, but the breeder said since I'm asking for no clipping they are ready a little faster. Jean and her husband are really sweet breeders, they hang on for a little while longer after the first clip to handle reversion.

Any suggestions on where to buy inexpensive cotton rope, 1" diameter about 100ft long?

getting this playstand. Found a great solution to put sliding doors in my dining room, which is being converted in a hurry into a full blown parrot room. :):) I can just tell this is only the beginning of a pet hoarding problem.. not really, but I am really excited.. I'm going to make another thread asking some other important questions in the appropriate subsection.

He/she arrived today! .. man, is it PEEVED! growling it's little lungs out at me and the wife. I'm glad i set up the aviary enough to let it come out slowly and safely without me in the room. It just would not budge with us sitting there.

fast forward to the last minute when our baby teeths on my wife for a good thirty seconds of pain.

My wife was troubled, but she knows the little thing is just learning. she worries she does the wrong thing every time it happens, she even gave it a little pinch to try and distract it long enough to get off. I can't say i blame her, but she was sorry she did it later

As for me, when it gets low and starts heading my direction, i just make it step up instead of recoiling back, send it back to where it started coming at me. after about three times of this, it went and nibbled on my wife some more since it really wasn't getting anywhere with me.

I don't think either of these tactics are making it want to nibble on us any less, but we're just trying not to reward hard biting while it's learning about it's powerful beak.

the jardine's leaned in to grab with it's beak. i thought it wanted to step up but when t started biting, my wife didn't much feel like handling it, surprise surprise

there isn't a whole lot of drama coming along with these bites, which to me means it's innocent teething.. but I'm not expert.

NEVER hurt your parrot to get it off, no matter how much it bites or how much it hurts!
I understand that your wife was unprepared, but please explain it to her, its NOT okay to pinch a parrot to get it off.

I mean well, if dealt with in such a way by your wife, you are bound not only to treat it in a non-humane way, but will get heaps of problems - and likely agression towards your wife.
