Stitch and Leroy in flight pics!

Postby cml » Fri Aug 09, 2013 9:53 am

Tried snapping a few shots of the parrots midair, it aint easy as I dont have a DSLR with supertracking focus, so instead I chose a focus point manually and waited for them to fly by ^^. Also noticed that its impossible to get a shot without using the flash, but the parrots dont seem to mind too much.

Im gonna play around more with the camera settings, but here a few of the pics with them flying about!

Both parrots flying down the hallway towards our living room.

(notice his outmost primary, its the last one we are waiting for to molt, its a bit scruffy looking as he's had it since he was a baby ^^)

Challenging but fun, hope you enjoyed the photos =)!

Your birds are very beautiful! I think that Dusky Pi's have to be some of the neatest looking parrots around -- like a sparkly night sky. Anyway... these shots are great, and on the same level as many of the photo contest entries in the Bird Talk Magazine. Thanks for sharing for sharing them and the techniques you used.

I love the first picture- Leroy's tail feathers are gorgeous! I do have a DSLR camera, a Canon Rebel XT. Catching any bird in flight is very tricky, though, unless they're soaring birds like hawks and seagulls.

My camera has a self timer, maybe I can do something with that... I'll show my attempts later. xD But those are amazing pictures!

Thanks everyone, and the birds send their regards ;).

He's actually a bronze winged pionus, but I agree - he's beautiful!

Cool, you should be able to get some really good shots then. AF on DSLRs are much faster than on my bridge camera.
I've got a Fujifilm HS30exr, its a good camera in a dslr-body but with a fixed lens and a tiny sensor. Makes for great zoom though and its quite versatile with an effective range of 24-620mm, great to have with you when you are outside. Might eventually get a m43 mirrorless camera, but who knows ^^.

Leroy is a sight. I hear pionus can be rather subdued and amazon rather rambunctious. How does your pair get along?

I thought I had replied to this sorry.

I agree with what Michael said, this is how they are meant to be. Don't knock your pictures for not having a better camera, they are very very good pictures. My ex bf was like that, always wanting to take the perfect picture and just seeing the flaws in the ones he had taken. There were so many I could see nothing wrong with.
Your birds are also very very beautiful.

Thanks!

I wasnt knocking on my camera, its a pretty good one actually. Best bridge camera there is, although its the previous generation of the series. I do know that I am still learning about photography though, and getting the hang of putting together the correct settings etc :).

I am pretty happy with those pictures actually :), I managed to work around the slower AF of bridge cameras and yet capture my birds in flight so all is good! But thanks for the encouragement anyway =).

Glad you all like the pictures :D!

I agree with the others, Leroy's flight feathers are gorgeous! I love Stitch's feet in the last photo. Well done!
If it looks like a duck, and quacks like a duck, we have at least to consider the possibility that we have a small aquatic bird of the family anatidae on our hands.
