I have a question.

Postby birdsr4ever » Mon Aug 19, 2013 11:33 pm

I have a 5 month old Senegal parrot, on her play tree along with her other toys I put a toy stuffed parrot, when she plays with it, it looks like she is beating it up and screeching at it. Does she think its another bird or is that how they play, do you think I should remove it? :senegal:

i dont know i suppose this comes down to two things:
1. Is the stuffed toy made of something safe for birds, , or is she destroying it and are there small parts that she might injest. If its getting dirty or destroyed so that you cant keep it clean then personally i would remove it.

2 ;Does it disturb her Psyologically due to it being bright colours or anything like that. She might be aggrssive towared it and you if she becomes possessive over it. Although this won't nessarily happen. Some birds will happily inteact with soft toys and play with them happily without tearing them apart have a look at the videos of marnie on youtube for example.

I would advise you supervise your bird to make sure the toy is physically not going to be eaten or something like that. The world parrot trust advises that parrots be given safe wodden toys that they can distroy as this helps their psycolocal and psyical well being.

finally my bird is not a senigal so i dont know about senigal specific behaviours and for that infomation you could search in other threads or ask micheal his advice.

I agree. Sennies (or any other parrot) don't need any encouragement to become violent.
