Big changes for my Flock

Postby MilesBird » Thu Aug 22, 2013 8:03 am

My new Cage came in yesterday :) Was a little worried that miles :irn: wouldnt like it,(he is often very timid of new things) but as soon as the first perches went in he climbed right up and started jumping from perch to perch. Pretty sure he loves it. (i was going to take him back to his first cage to sleep last night but he fell asleep in there a half hour before his usual bedtime so I decided to let him be)

Also in other life events my flock of two will soon be a flock of three ^_^
(That is my Gf -now my fiances- hand)

My dear, you can't use those dowel perches you have in the cage. You need to change them for tree branches of different diameters.

I only have one dowel perch(the other is just a ladder at the bottom of the cage) and no two of my perches are the same size. And i do have one tree branch perch in there.

Yes, but you have mostly boings or cotton ropes which are not what one would call 'natural' perches for parrots (very soft). It's much better for their claws, toes, feet and legs if you give them tree branches (and they are free and look so much better in a bird's habitat). And it's not only the diameter, it also has to do with bounce. Bird hardly ever alight to huge branches so when they 'land' on one, the branch bounces a bit (so there is hardly any impact to damage their joints) but this doesn't happen with dowels (which are also way too straight, it's better for their muscles if they are a bit crooked and uneven).
