My New Pet

Postby Gohan » Sat Aug 24, 2013 6:10 am

Guyzz I just bought two :budgie: 's from a pet store. They were wild and caught from a forest in Holland. Well now they are not to big the male :budgie: (Gohan) is about 4 months and the female :bluebudgie: (Rose) is about 3 months. Now I want to train them but I am afraid that I will hurt them or just cant get them out of their cage I atleast want to pet them but how could I get them out of the cage and stop them from flying plus they are afraid of human hands I sometime touched them but still they are running in the cage and when can they breed.

Hi!
Congrats on getting your budgies. My first bird was Lucy, a :greycockatiel: and she was with me for almost thirteen years!
With my experience, wild birds are pretty hard to tame. But since your budgies are quite young, I think it's possible!Even with my :senegal:, it took a while for them to let me pet them. I think what you'll have to do is to first get them accustomed to "step up" and "step down" and once they are used to that, you will have a much better time handling them. Since they are afraid of people, it's mostly just going to take lots of time. Good luck!

I've got three parrots now. What would my boyfriend say?

Sorry but no wild caught bird should ever be kept as a pet, this is illegal in most countries I think but not sure about holland. Still they are in you care now and need looking after as they wont be able to fend for themselves even if re-released. You should be able to tame them down with some patience, budgies are one of the easier birds to tame but you may have to train them separately. Please never buy a wild caught bird again though.

Sounds like they were brought in from a feral population. For all you know, those were escaped pets in the first place.

My thoughts too. Budgies are Australian birds, not European. I wouldn't see a problem with people catching the feral Quakers around S. Florida. What I would find a problem with if that they were caught in their native habitat.

It is not like I caught them they were just in the shop. I went to the shop he told me the age and where they came from. They are just wild as he said and he also said take care but thanks for warning me wont buy any birds like this.
