Cooing

Postby MilesBird » Mon Sep 30, 2013 8:12 am

I have a 7 month old :irn: and i have had him for about two months. In the last couple weeks he has gotten more comfortable with me and first thing in the morning when i get him out of the cage we will sit on the couch and he will preen and i will gently pet him(this is the only time of the day that he will let me touch him or else i get a growl and a nip) occasionally he will get very puffy and squat low to my hand while a pet him and sometimes he will coo. sometimes this cooing will turn into a growl. does the cooing mean he likes getting petted or not? its very confusing because he seems to snuggle into my hand a bit then decides that he doesnt like it anymore?

IRN's are Bipolar freaks, in the best possible way, and their body language can be tricky. Firstly, are you sure he's male? The squatting behaviour sounds female to me. The cooing is a good sign, mine only did that while content. As for the growl it seems to just be a noise they make. Krystall would growl while upset, but she would also just make the noise sometimes.

:D when they go flat you can stroke them behind the head if the cooing takes a deeper sound it may be about to bite. It sounds like female behaviour to me but its too young to tell. They go flat when they are happy or matting.
