im grieving so deeply.

Hi. I recently lost my hahns macaw. I mean it was horrible. My husband told me that we should let his wings grow so he could learn to fly at least one time because it's good for his coordination. So I wanted what's best for Mr. Brain. Brain bonded strongly with myself and my 14 year old. Well she wasn't cleaning up his droppings and my husband said that brain cage was going on the back porch. I wasnt happy about this but he put his foot down. Brain did enjoy being out there but on October 27 th we left home for a bit and when we came home my daughter went to get him and said he was gone. His cage was shut and he wasnt there. I yelled to my husband trying not to lose it. We started calling for him and heard his call from far away. I drove to the street behind me and found him in a very tall tree. He was scared and shaking his wings meaning. . Mommy come get me. We used a ladder and tried but he flew to 3 other very tall trees. He didn't know how to fly down yet. It was windy. The fire department tried, a friend with a bucket truck tried but by then it got dark and Brain stopped answering me. The next morning I started my search again. I found him near home. I tried to get him to fly to me. He was so close. My baby was right there. He tried to fly to me, I was even on a ladder. He got caught in the wind and ended up down the road. I grabbed my daughter's 10 speed and followed him. After that tree he flew towards my house and I rode the bike as fast as I could and then there he was. 40 feet or so above me flying at me. . I threw my left hand in the air and said come here baby step up! He flew past and I slammed on brakes and FLIPPED the bike. I injured my arm and my knee and had to go to emergency care. The kids followed him for hours until he disappeared into some trees. I haven't seen him since. Today is November 9th. I've had his cage out back in case he finds his way home. I've posted on Craigslist, put up flyers, searched for over a week. I contacted Florida parrot rescue. My baby is gone. No one understands my heart break. I cry all the time. I've had many pets in my life but my baby called me momma. He slept with me, ate with me bathed with me. I have never experienced grief like this. And what I've heard the most is. . All Over a stupid bird. . Or is just a dumb bird. Tomorrow will be 2 weeks. I cannot even go back to work until the 19th because of my injuries. All I can think is I lost my baby. I was so close to him so many times and I just couldn't get him. I love my baby with all my heart. I had him 3 years. It was love at first site. I didn't choose him. He chose me. He was the first exotic bird at the new pet supermarket that had just opened near job and I would go on looking for dog toys. The first time he saw me he wanted me. He was a bitter and young. He wouldn't get out of my hair and the staff had to fight him to get off of me. After 4 visits with the same result, I took him home. I'm sorry to post such a sad story but I need kind words from people who can truly understand. Thanks in advanced. Angie.

So very sorry for your loss. I understand completely what you are going through. Don't lose hope, though, persevere in your search. Have you posted to Parrot911 and Parrot911Alert? If you haven't, please do.

Leaving birds outside is a dangerous thing to do because they don't only open the doors on their own, they are an easy target for thieves and predators. I hope your husband has learned his lesson.

I am so, so sorry. My heart bleeds for you and I am in tears for you because I know EXACTLY what you're going through right now. I lost my beloved Tiki a few months ago, who flew from the home due to a freak accident. I never spotted her, or found her despite exhaustive days of searching and hiking the area for weeks, as well as countless fliers and newspaper ads -- the works, I tried it all. My bird was gone, as I believe she kept flying and flying, although a pet psychic told me someone has her.

The good news is that there's a good possibility he is still alive, also that you spotted your bird and he is likely in the area still. Birds follow the sun -- at sunrise and sunset look for him. Grab a bag of his favorite treats. Yell calls or words that he knows. But don't give up looking for him. It's only been two weeks, there's still a chance you will find him! Someone could also have him, so I would request running an ad in the local paper. Check Craigslist to see if someone has your bird and is trying to sell him -- this was wise advise given to me by a man who works with bird rescue. Check with local animal control as well.

Pajarita is absolutely right, parrots911 is excellent resource, also contact your local Exotic Bird Rescue and see if they can post a notice on their website. If you can get local news stations to run a story on your bird, do it! I knew a girl who lost her cockatiel around the time that I lost Tiki, and it was on the local news.

Thank you both so much. I have an ad on Craigslist, 911parrot alert, florida parrot rescue and I have posters up. I recieved a call yesterday saying he might have been seen in a near by community. My husband and I jumped in the car and drove all through it calling for him. I have a hard time not busting in to tears when I drove around calling for him. Especially after a restless night of dreaming that he came back. I have so many videos of him being silly and grooming me. I have the cutest video of him in his cage and there's poop on his cuddly that he sleeps in. I ask him who did it. . He says "what" what do you mean what? Some one pooped on your cuddly. . Was it you? Did you do it? And then he hides his head in shame. Lol. So cute. Another of my favorite memories. . I came home and had to use the bathroom. . I opened his door and then ran back to the bathroom. Soon I hear little steps in the tile and he tells. .. hello? Momma! Step up! Then he found me and climbed on my foot and up my jeans . He is quite the character. He even puts my large dogs in their place. I love my baby.

So sorry to hear your baby has flown away. It has only been 2 weeks, don't give up hope yet. Since he has been outside, hopefully he will recognize the surroundings and come back. I lost my beloved Ricky (Pomaranian dog) many years ago due to old age. I couldn't get over that loss for weeks. When the hospital had to euthanize him in front of me, a grown man cried in tears.

I owned 3 different parrots at different stage of my life. Two of them had flown away and I was able to recover them both.

I got my first parrot when I was 8 years old. A kid in the neigborhood needed money and sold a parrot to me for $3. He was totally tamed. I didn't know how old or what species he was, but he was mostly green with red belly about the size of a CAG. I kept him fully flighted. One day he flew away due to some nearby construction loud noises. I risked my young life racing barefoot accross heavy traffic and found him 4 blocks away on the ground in front of a fire station. I got into so much trouble with my parents that day; not because of their worry about loosing the bird, but I could have been killed in traffic. I had that parrot for 3 years. We had to move and I had to give him up to a priest who loved and cared for many birds. He promised to care for him as long as he lives. I came back to visit the priest 26 years later from half way around the world. The priest had long passed away and no one could tell me what happened to all of his birds. A long time priest resident care taker told me she remembered seing my parrot. But she would not tell me what happened to my parrot or exactly what year she last seen him. She kept telling that she is old and having hard time remember things.

This year, my family and I adopted Lily, a Yellow Sided Conure. Three weeks after bringing Lily home, she also flew away and was chased by 2 hawks as soon as she took off. Fortunately, the hawks missed her after 3 strikes and she came back to us on her own after hiding inside a tree. Prior to Lily's flew away, I had trained her to fly down to me from high places both indoor and outdoor. That was probably what saved her from the hawks and for her flied back to me on her own. Lily doesn't get to go outdoor for sunlight without her cage anymore. She is still fully flighted inside the house.

All three of the parrots I owned know how to open their own cages with ease. The other parrot I owned when I was 14 was a budgerigar. I had it for 7 years before it died. Parrots are very smart. Don't under estimate them. My Lily can open her sleeping cage (antique cage) but not her daytime cage (modern cage) with double-lock.

This is my biggest fear. That and that my baby will fly into a wall. He flew when we first moved into this house and flew to high and hit a ledge. Scared me to death but apparently he didn't hit it as hard as it looked. He now lowers when he flies through there.
I can't tell you how sorry I am. My bird is like my love, I can't imagine him not being here. Please keep trying to find your bird. It is still not hopeless.

Its been a month today. My hope has gone. My heart is broken. I still cant talk about him without crying. My daughter's cockatiel has decided that I am his now that mr. Brain isn't here to chase him away. So diego gives me some comfort, but its not the same. .broken.. I feel that part of me is now missing.

I'm sorry for your troubles.. Sometimes I have dreams of snapping and killing my loxley. It hurts so bad i feel like I'm losing my humanity.. But in the end they are only dreams. You now live a nightmare. Hold tight to your humanity.
