Parrot Expo and some news (Picture heavy!)

Postby LadySaphine » Mon Nov 18, 2013 8:31 am

So yesterday we went to a parrot fair/expo, my first! (For any North Carolinians near Charlotte, it was in Belmont.) Took a lot of pictures and saw many birds I've never seen before.

First things: Pictures!
Oops, I messed this up. Re-doing it.

Sorry for so many pictures, but there's a lot more where that came from!

Second off: The news

While we were there, we met a breeder who breeds parrotlets. She had a few pictures of her birds but didn't bring any (that were ready, anyways). We told her that Diva was a breeder (she was meant for that anyways) and she actually needed a female for a male she had. So... we gave Diva to her. We did talk for a long time before we gave her, and she's been breeding for ten years, so I think she's at least experienced. We're going to keep in contact with her, and may see some of Diva's babies, if she has any.

Actually, she did bring some of her babies (not for sale of course) and they were probably the cutest little dino-bird-creatures ever!

And... while we were there, there was this little blue budgie named PJ. He was the tamest budgie I've ever met. He loved to hang around in my hair and he would step up every time! We took him home (he was a very good boy at home too, but he didn't want to go into his cage!)

We also got a pair of Button Quail. They're in a nice large guinea pig cage with a boink-proof roof.

The parrot fair was really great, there were a TON of Quakers making a big racket. Blue, green, yellow, dilute, white, pretty much every color they come in. There were also these IRNs who were a breeding pair, but were very calm (one was the blue one above, the other was a beautiful gray). Also saw some cute Green Cheeks, such sweeties! Also there were kakarikis, plum headed parakeets, exotic finches, and beautiful singer canaries. And I held a cockatoo for the first time! A very sweet Umbrella, who tried to give me kisses. I may never get a 'too myself, but they are such sweeties. :cockatoo:

And I never knew how small an IRN was! I thought they were about the size of a Blue-crowned Conure, but bigger. There were a lot there, so gorgeous!

We did get some supplies and natural wood perches. The cages there were really cheap- a large macaw cage (I think it haw 6 ft tall, 5 feet wide and 3 feet deep) was only $275- I'm pretty sure that would be half the price online!!
Peanut - :gcc: Yellow-sided Green Cheeked Conure. Rest in peace, my Peanut.
