Yes I don't know what I was thinking, when I made the post in the wording I did, and I certainly don't want people to think ill of me around here...

I love Winnie, she is great, but she will hurt you bad, at least if she jumped on you and went for your eyes and I almost had that happen once, she bit me near my eye once in the past...

Again the Nazi thing is like the Soup Nazi, and as far as I can remember it is just harmless humor, and by the way I also come from a Jewish Heritage too.

So I hope everyone has no hard feelings.

Plus I have kids I have to think of too, and I certainly didn't want to see Winnie hurt any of my family...

As my daugher puts it, Winnie is Bioplar, actually she is Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde...

I hope everyone accepts my apology for my poor wording, Winnie was not harmed, and I cut her wings sadly, I honestly wanted her to fly, but she's indoors with the family and it's not safe, so I was really sad by it...

I want Emmi to fly and did not clip her in the first place. I see more benefits in flight and I have my personal opinions on it, but I'm not one to judge another on clipping any type of bird. Working with children and having step kids, I do understand your concerns for their safety.

But I'm glad you came back with an apology. I'm sure it did make you sad and it was a hard decision for you. But you don't see many people these days saying sorry. (I sound like my grandma! ) I get so sick of the whole "I don't care what you think" attitude. So no grudge here!

There is certainly certain aspects in life for things we do that we should not care what others think, but I believe those are more in line with choices that don't offend or step on toes, just differences in ideas is all, so to speak...

But as a community like this, it's important to be considerate towards others, especially when needing help, because pissing off people isn't going to get you far, might even get you banned too...

It's just refreshing when people actually say sorry and own up to things, not something I see a lot of outside my home and work. People have lost the ability to pull up their pants and own up to things when it counts.

I am not offended over your clipping the bird but, I was disappointed in what appeared to be a gloating attitude from you about it.
I understand that sometimes we do as we see we must instead of as we would want to do and I harbor no ill will towards you or yours.

^ Exactly. It wasn't just the clipping or just the nazi comment. It was the whole laughing attitude and sadistic pleasure in disabling a bird. Saying it with regret as a necessary means is one thing, thinking it's hilarious is another. This is why I pointed out immediately that you'd save yourself a lot of embarrassment by removing that post entirely. But you've learned and apologized and that's what is important. This is why I do not remove posts or lock threads. I hope that the authors can learn for themselves.

Apology accepted. But I still don't agree with you. I have a wild caught male amazon that was a breeder his entire life. This bird was never hand-fed and had no human socialization whatsoever, all he knew about humans was negative. He was so bad that neither the breeder (who had gotten him from another breeder) nor the rescue where he ended up wanted him and I seriously doubt that Winnie is worse than him. But Blue Grinch is fully flighted and he no longer attacks me (took two years). One needs to find the way without harming the bird. And clipping harms them.

Now, I understand what you say about having to protect your family and I agree with you on that 100% but I simply do not agree on the method. I've never had a Mynah but, for what I have read about them and hearing from other people who keep them as pets, they only get aggressive during breeding season so maybe you need to reconsider her light schedule and diet. They also mention that they need a place of their own because they like to have time for themselves and that they benefit from having a box of their own. But, if you are already doing everything right (light, diet, box, etc) and Winnie still has gotten to the point where you are afraid she is going to pluck an eye from somebody, it's time you thought of finding her a more adequate place for her to live. There are sanctuaries that take on wild birds that don't know how to survive on their own in the wild and I know because I once took in a female Northern Cardinal that had been bred in captivity (which is actually illegal in the States) and had been fed wrong for years so her liver was not longer metabolizing protein correctly so she ended up with fatty liver disease and keratin sheaths growing out of her legs (they looked like translucid brown plastic wings) so I kept her for a couple of years and, once her liver was working better and she got used to eating a better diet, I found her a wildlife rehabilitator that specialized in birds and had a wintering enclosure built for the ones that cannot be released back into the wild. It took me months of inquiries to find this lady and we had to drive four hours to her place but she is now with other birds of her own species and having a life as close as what nature meant for her to have as possible. That is what you should do instead of clipping her. But I notice you also have a sparrow, a bird for which there is no reason on this earth to keep captive because they don't imprint and are instinctual eaters...

Nahh I still feel like an idiot, and I should of tried something harder with Winnie.

No I can tell she loves us, she actually hates to go outdoors, she's just bipolar, happy one second, then yelling at you the next... She just has her moods...

Acutally this is my second sparrow and the first one we had was also a girl, but I got her at an earlier age and she really bonded to me. She could be hopping around any place on the floor far from me and the second I'd call her name, she'd come right away hopping to me.

I use to always take her outside sitting on my shoulder, she was a really great bird.

Sora eats the same pellets I feed the other birds, I just grind them up smaller for her.
