Where do i go from here

Postby RandomDramatics » Tue May 06, 2014 9:10 pm

Yesterday I lost my dearest companion. his name was Boomer. I was lucky enough to know him from egg to hatchling where he was the runt that no one thought was going to make it. and now 9 1/2 years later my baby boy has left very suddenly :greycockatiel: he is now my angel and my best friend. but I have a few family members that are wanting me to move on and get a new buddy. I admit I want a new companion because i'm all alone I miss Boomer's song and his cuddles. and I would love to have a new compainion that I could talk to and cuddle and love and play with but I don't know where to go. I have Boomer's Cage and his kennel and i'm waiting to get my baby back home from the crematorium. can anyone give me any ideas??

Hi, terribly sorry to hear about Boomer. I'm glad to know he's made it over 9 years which is pretty good for a cockatiel and proud that you've kept him so long. That will be a well-cherished legacy.

My best advice for now is not to jump in on another bird. I know because I've been there (although it wasn't a long period at all). It is extremely tempting to get another bird because it hurts and you need to fill that void. But that also presses judgement. Give it a few months. Get complete closure. Let it go. Then when you can go into it with a clear mind and a clear conscious, then you will be ready to take your time and evaluate your next commitment. I hope that helps.

I am so sorry that this has happened in your life, words are useless but I am wishing only the best for you.

I don't know when it is best for you, no one does, but when you are ready please visit the nearest avian shelter and/ or rescue for your next friend. Their are so many birds there who are in need of the love you could offer them.

You have my sympathy. A friend like Boomer can't be replaced. I find that I should wait to get new pets until I want a NEW friend rather than the old one back. Best wishes.

I understand all about being alone and nothing that I say can help with the void left by your friend. But on the other side go to the nearest avian rescue and find a new friend, you don't have to be alone and it would help one of them to not have to be alone too.

I would love to cause I want to make them happy and give them love but the closest one is 2 provinces away or in the states and they don't let you adopt if you live more then 200km away I live almost 800km away

Is there one within the 200KM distance from your family members? Could you arrange to visit them and use their address to adopt from a shelter?

Being alone far from home is bad. I can't think of a good solution. Maybe a totally different animal would help? Something like a hamster? Doubtless you are different, but I can't do justice to a new bird while I am grieving another.
