Andy's Antics

Postby Tman007 » Tue Jul 15, 2014 1:46 pm

So Andy has been doing great, so great that I have a little tale to tell you. First the other day he fell from his water bowl, luckily it is not that far from the ground, This is what happen he decided that he wanted to take a bath and he dove in head first into his drinking water he had his whole head under water and then he went nuts. LOL splashing and screaming water going every were, he was so into it that all of a sudden he just fell out of his water, He got up looked at me I was laughing and he got right back up and continued with his bath. And then this morning he got back at me. He was the one laughing at me. Andy was on the ground running around. I was sitting in the chair, I had bare feet he came up and was looking at my toes and just grabbing them, really lightly and then he grabbed my big toe and it was kind of hard so I lifted my foot up so that he would let go. But NO he just hung on and bit down harder so here he is hanging from my big toe. And I could hear him chirping like he was just having a great time with my toe. So all I could do was laugh too. I have got to tell you Why I waited so long before I decided to get a parrot I will not know, they are so much fun.

Conures really are adorable! Especially their enthusiasm for baths. Sounds like you and Andy are having fun together. I don't know how big Andy's drinking bowl is, but I'd suggest you'd have separate drinking/bathing bowls for him :).

Yes, that's the way most people feel... kind of like 'WOW! how come I did not know that parrots are sooooo great?!' And they are! Fabulous animals - beautiful, intelligent, affectionate, funny, forgiving, attentive, empathetic, compassionate, loyal... and the list of virtues goes on and on. Problem is, their physiological and emotional needs are so very incompatible with a normal human lifestyle that it becomes a huge and, most often, impossible burden keeping them healthy and happy in captivity.

I do have two bowls for him one for drinking and bathing and one for me to step in. Andy just will not use the one I have for him to take a bath. I put it on the floor and let him on the floor and he will drink from it but has not use it for a bath yet. He waits for me to fill his drinking water, and the away he goes LOL. He will put his head under the water. I just worry about his ears getting water in them. then when he is done he comes out of his cage and just rolls a round on the floor like a dog would do. LOL :gcc:

Well he either likes that bowl for bathing or he likes where it is and feels safe enough for a bath there, or it could be both. Either way you may as well let him take a bath in there and give him another dish in another spot for drinking.

I think he likes it for it size. You need to sit down for what I am about to tell you. I put Andy on the play gym it has a small stainless steel bowl, I put a few pellets in the bottom of the bowl. Well he crams himself in the bowl like he is taking a bath and throws the pellets every were. LOL :gcc: I will have to try and film that so you can see it.

They do have their quirks, no doubt about it! As to the bowl he uses for bathing, I have found that although they will drink from whatever available source they have, they can be pretty picky as to their bathing bowl - some birds like them big, some small, some shallow, some deep, some made out of metal, some made out of something else (some of my canaries like transparent plastic and nothing else). I just put all different sizes and depths and let them choose but the parrots only get stainless steel or anodized aluminum.

Corsair puts her head in her water bowl and flips it back to get her back wet. But if I give her a "bath bowl" she will only get her front wet. Silly bird!

I have to tell the thing that is so is that he waits until I put fresh water in the bowl then he takes his bath. I have been giving them bottle water ever since I have had them. so he takes a bath in fresh bottle water. LOL I have to go out and get another bowl for his water and see if he will just drink from it.

Well, you can always just change the water after he finishes his bath.
